The latest addition to Fortnite’s arsenal of weapons, traps, and gadgets is the Boombox, and it’s proving to be very controversial among players, especially those who pride themselves on their ability to build their way out of trouble.
Added yesterday as part of the V7.10 content update, the Boombox tears down any structures in its range, making it impossible for players to build nearby it, but also stripping away any structures that have already been placed – so don’t even thinking about seeking shelter in a nearby house.
To make matters worse, the Boombox boasts nearly as many health points as the X-4 Stormwing Plane, so you’ll have to pour plenty of bullets into it before you can resume building, and you’ll be defenseless the whole time.
The Fortnite: Battle Royale subreddit is already packed with clips showing just how powerful this new item is, and many are questioning its addition following rapid vaulting of the Infinity Blade earlier in December, which Epic Games admitted was too powerful.

No official stats for the Boombox were given in the V7.10 patch notes, but it’s not the only addition to Fortnite this week. Fortnite Creative mode players now have prefabs from the Ice Castle to play around with, while two new weapons make their way into Save the World.

Given the volume of negative responses to the Boombox, it seems unlikely that the new item will remain in Fortnite in its current state for very long – Epic Games have gotten pretty good at vaulting overpowered weapons and items.
