December 17, 2018 All tomorrow’s planned Fortnite additions are getting delayed.
Fortnite patch 7.10 was supposed to launch tomorrow, but now that’s not going to happen. “Due to last minute issues discovered within the build,” Epic says, “we’ve had to delay the timing for the release of the v7.10 update.” There’s no ETA on the patch now, but the studio says details on an exact time will come “once we have more information.”
That comes in via Reddit, as does a separate delay for the Driftboard, which was expected launch as part of that patch. “Unfortunately,” Epic says, “we’ve decided to hold the release of this new vehicle to make some final quality of life changes and other polish improvements.” Whether the new release date for the Driftboard will end up matching patch 7.10 is still in question.
The Driftboard is the snowboard – or maybe hoverboard – was teased ahead of Season 7, and made a proper debut in a now-removed in-game news post. That description said “Hop on board and boost past your competition with this new single player vehicle!” Per Epic’s typically subtle hints, that means you can expect a boost feature and that you won’t be able to put two people on a single board. That’d just be silly, after all.
Epic also tweeted out three emoji after the news feed was updated: a snowboarder, a snowflake, and those eyes which are either suspicious, curious, or horny – I’m too old and out of touch to know which at any given time. Together, they suggest that this is indeed a snowboard rather than a hoverboard despite the item’s futuristic appearance.
7.10 is also supposed to kill the unexpected return of the Infinity Blade, but it seems that specter will last a little bit longer.

Hopefully the Driftboard’s debut turns out better than other recent additions to the game. While snowboards might suggests things are going downhill, the reality is that we can only go up from here.
