Fortnite’s disappearing objects are showing up in a real-life desert

Fortnite’s Durrr Burger was one of many objects in the game to go missing after the rifts appeared earlier this week. Now it’s showed up again, but not in-game – instead, the burger mascot has appeared in a real-life desert.

The massive burger head was found by photographer Sela Shiloni, who says he discovered it while scouting locations for an upcoming photoshoot. The burger is surrounded by signs saying “this site is unstable, beware of possible effects” and “if you can read this you’re in range of the anomaly,” as well as a police car that looks like it’s straight from the game.

As I see it, there are three possibilities. The burger might’ve fallen off some Fortnite-branded truck. It could’ve actually transported to our reality through an interdimensional rift, just like in my fanfiction. Or, most likely, this is an elaborate – and well-executed – marketing tactic for the game’s upcoming season.

That possibility has many questioning Shiloni’s role in all this – whether he truly stumbled on the site or if he’s just the vector Epic used to bring awareness to the stun. Either way, it doesn’t really matter – we know live in a world where the Durrr Burger is in the desert, and we have to come to terms with that fact any way we can.

A desert has been a rumored location for an upcoming Fortnite map for quite some time, and this real-world location has renewed that speculation. Whether that’s a fully new map or just another change to the existing map remains to be seen – as does whether this location has any bearing on the game at all. The Fortnite season 5 release date will likely be when we find out for sure.

In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled whenever you’re rolling down a lonesome highway through the wilderness – the Tomato Town dude could end up anywhere.
