One of Fortnite’s latest game modes allows players to turn back the clock on the battle royale. Unvaulted Mode, which has turned up as part of the game’s ‘14 Days of Fortnite’ holiday event, will cater to players pining for the game’s early days, but it’ll only be available for a limited time.
The mode will see the return of a variety of weapons that never really found their place in the game which Epic ‘vaulted’ – their term for removing an item with a view to potentially reinstating it further down the line. Plenty of firearms have received the treatment over the past year, from the desperately overpowered Guided Rocket Launcher to the largely disrespected Crossbow.
I jumped into a game just now to try and explore the new mode, but I didn’t find that much. A few vaulted weapons – the Tactical SMG and the Impulse Grenade – both showed up, but they were mixed in with plenty of normal weapons that are currently available in-game. In my opinion, a better bet might have been a mode in which vaulted items were the only ones available.
The mode has arrived in place of a Classic Mode, which returned the map to its far more sparse Season One version, and only allowed players to use weapons introduced the first two seasons. That arrived yesterday, but appears to have been removed, with no word from Epic at time of writing.

Unvaulted is just one of a bunch of LTMs heading to the game over the next two weeks. Elsewhere, Epic could be about to cover the entire map in snow, making some of the more arctic-themed Fortnite skins pretty powerful.
