Fortnite Tomatohead challenges – how to unlock the Tomatohead Crown

fortnite tomatohead challenges

This week’s Fortnite update rolled out with a couple of massive changes: Tomato Town is dead and has been replaced by a temple, and there are now a bespoke set of Fortnite Tomatohead challenges for anyone with that skin to complete. There are three of these challenges and you will only unlock the reward item once you have completed all of them. The Tomatohead Crown upgrade is themed to tie into the new Tomato Temple area on the map, with tribal warpaint and a makeshift crown of cutlery to really sell that cult aesthetic.

Of course if you want to do any of this you will have to first buy the Tomatohead skin from the Fortnite Item Shop. Naturally, Epic Games have put the outfit back into the store to celebrate the beginning of this challenge – it’s not clear if you will still be able to buy the skin once it leaves the store. There is also no time limit for these challenges, so there’s no need to book any time of work to unlock the skin upgrade.

So, how do you unlock the Tomatohead Crown? The Tomatohead challenges are ridiculously easy, if you have the skin already then you should progress through all three organically. Here’s how to complete all three Fortnite Tomatohead challenges:

Play matches (0/25)

Keep dropping, attempt to stay alive for long enough to deal some damage, rinse, and repeat. Playing matches works into the other two Fortnite Tomatohead challenges so rushing these and not attempting to do the others as well will be a huge waste of your time

Deal damage to opponents (0/5,000)

5,000 damage is roughly equivalent to 50 eliminations, but as this challenge only counts damage done it will be very easy to complete. Simply take as many opportunities to deal damage as possible, regardless of whether or not you intend to chase the elimination and you’ll have completed the second Tomatohead challenge before you know it.

Gain 20,000 XP (0/20,000)

This one may take a while but will take up naturally the longer you play. You get XP in Fortnite for doing the following things:

  • Your first kill is worth 50 XP
  • Subsequent kills up to the cap of 100 XP are worth 20 XP each
  • Each minute survived will net you 17 XP
  • Top 20 placement will get you 25 XP
  • Top 10 placement is worth 100 XP
  • A Victory Royale will grant you an almighty 300 XP

Clearly, you get more XP for staying alive than for racking up kills, so if getting six eliminations a game sounds like a big ask for you then camping out behind a tree is just as effective when it comes to grinding XP.
