Free Oculus Rift for those who bought DK1 on Kickstarter

Oculus-Rift

Struggling with the January blues? If you backed the Oculus Rift Kickstarter at the $275 tier or above, this news might cheer you up: a free Rift headset will be heading your way ahead of pre-orders opening tomorrow.

EVE: Valkyrie will come packaged with every Oculus Rift – which of our best space games would also work well in VR?

‘Tis the season no more, but Oculus are still in the mood for being jolly, it seems. “You’re going to experience thrilling adventures in Lucky’s Tale and Edge of Nowhere, feel your heart race as you scale mountains in The Climb, and become a rockstar in Rockband VR,” reads a Kickstarter update posted earlier today. “As one of the early supporters of Oculus, you helped make this revolution happen. And before we open Rift pre-orders to the world, we wanted to share one more special update with you, our Kickstarter community.”

The update goes on to say the courtesy Rifts – that come with Lucky’s Tale and EVE: Valkyrie in tow – are “a small token of our appreciation for your support” and also comes with a short video that shows founder Palmer Luckey, CEO Brendan Iribe and VP of product Nate Mitchell huddled together on a couch discussing how far the campaign, the headset, and the concept of virtual reality itself has come over the last few years.

The trio can hardly contain their beaming grins as they announce the news, which I’m sure is how those who chipped in at the required level now feel – all 7,000 or so of you. You lucky beggars. If that’s you, expect to receive a survey from Kickstarter soon, whereby you’ll be asked to provide a delivery address.

If you need even more Rift in life, look out for tomorrow’s Reddit AMAwith Mr Luckey himself.
