How to construct Frostpunk 2 Trails and Skytrails

Frostpunk 2 trails are a crucial part of expansion, unlocking new areas and resources, but it’s not immediately obvious how to build them.

How do you construct trails and skytrails in Frostpunk 2? Frostpunk 2 is a tough survival city-builder in which you try to run a colony in the harshest of everlong winters. As such, exploration and expansion is no easy feat, and the journey must be made less dangerous.

As you send your Frostpunk 2 Frostland teams out to explore the nearby area in the city-building game, you need to start constructing trails to the most important locations, either to support the transport of resources or to aid the journey of your Frostpunk 2 colonists. While essentially simple, this can be a slightly fussy mechanic, so here’s how to construct trails in Frostpunk 2.

The Frostland screen shows how to construct a trail in Frostpunk 2.

How to construct Frostpunk 2 trails

Both trails and skytrails are built in the same way in Frostpunk 2 – connect one area to another by clicking on one and dragging the line to where you want it. However, it’s a bit more complicated than that, as each trail is built in sections.

Once you select either trails or skytrails from the bottom right hand corner of the Frostland screen, you can begin crafting them. As you can see from the image above, there is a dotted radius around your current trail location marking the maximum distance to which you can create a single trail section. It’s probably not enough to get you to where you want to go, so you need to place a marker in this area before moving on.

Constructing trails and skytrails requires an amount of Frostpunk 2 Heatstamps, prefabs, and Frostland teams – if you are unable to build, this might be what’s holding you back. Each full trail requires a set number of Frostland teams, but each section itself increases the cost of the trail in terms of Heatstamps and Prefabs.

As you expand your exploration of the surrounding area, more and more markers will be available, either that you’ve placed or discovered, making it easier to get from one location to another. When a trail is complete, a check mark button appears to connect the trail and start building.

Hopefully this little explanation makes constructing trails and skytrails a little easier in Frostpunk 2 now, and you’ll be on your way to finding more locations, like Frostpunk 2 Windward Moor. As you explore the apocalyptic game, you’ll find more ways to heat homes in Frostpunk 2, along with greater amounts of food and resources to keep your colonists happy – for a while.
