This is the high-end headphone to gaming headset upgrade you need

With its new Boom Mic upgrade, Meze Audio is offering a way to add a mic to its audiophile headphones, and they're universally compatible too.

If you own a serious high-end set of headphones and have wanted to upgrade them to a gaming headset with a boom microphone, options have existed for a long time. However, they don’t always match the build quality, sound quality, and level of slick integration you might hope for to match your headphones. That could change with this new boom mic headphone upgrade from Meze Audio.

The Boom Mic is simply an inline boom mic that neatly attaches to the 3.5mm jack sockets on Meze Audio’s headphones and provides a stylish-looking and convenient way to add an audio input to your headphones, saving you having to invest in one of the best gaming headsets as well as your preferred Hi-Fi headphones. Crucially, the connection and cabling of the Meze Audio Boom Mic is essentially universal, with it using a standard 3.5mm jack socket to attach to your headphones. With countless Hi-Fi-grade headphones using this sort of connection, this is an upgrade that could suit a wide range of headphones.

The Boom Mic is hardly the first such boom mic headphone upgrade to be available, with the Antlion Mod Mic being the most famous alternative example, but that option has always been designed to stick to the side of your headphones, making for a rather ugly upgrade. The Boom Mic is a much more elegant integration.

What’s more, the Boom Mic is a smart-looking addition with its laser-engraved aluminum cover. It also features a control clip with in-line mute and rotary volume controls. With it being from Meze Audio – a company that makes headphones ranging from $199 to $4,000 – we’d also hope the sound quality is excellent. The company claims it delivers “natural-sounding voice clarity with unmatched accuracy.”

Crucially, as well as its inherent analog nature meaning it is compatible with not only your PC – you’ll need a sound card or headphone amp to connect it to – but also all the standard consoles and any mobile devices.

All this and the Boom Mic costs just $79. It’s also available bundled with the company’s 99 Neo headphones (normally $199) for $269 and its 99 Classics headphones (normally $309) for $349.

The company is also launching a very swish-looking headphones stand called the Manta, but at $300 it’s slightly more of a premium upgrade.
