Gears of War 4’s prologue released in full, world is at total peace 20 minutes in – probably won’t last

Gears of War 4 prologue video

Gears of War is entering that awkward second trilogy phase, and that means new characters and, were I to hazard to guess even without the gameplay footage to back it up, new enemies. To introduce all that, Microsoft and The Coalition have released the full first twenty minutes of the game as a YouTube video, introducing their new stars and setting up a peaceful, friendly world which will soon descend into very metal violence once again. You can see it above.

How is the upcoming PC games list looking to you?

There’s not much of a wait left now until Gears of War 4 launches on PC, simultaneous with console for the first time in the series’ history. October 11 is go-day, in just a couple of weeks. Microsoft’s Play Anywhere game ports have varied in the past, but generally avoid properly apocalyptic scenarios – still, we’ll have our port review for you as soon as possible.

Beyond that prologue there’s supposedly another 10 hours of gameplay in the campaign, then of course the endless joys of multiplayer. Perhaps of more worry than graphical problems or poor framerates should be how well mouse and keyboard support holds up for a game that’s long been designed for thumbsticks. The Gears of War: Ultimate Edition re-release did well in that regard, so the precedent is there.

It’ll be Windows 10 store only to begin with, but could make the jump to Steam similar to Quantum Break this week.
