New Ghostbusters game coming in July to star completely new cast

Ghostbusters

A Ghostbusters game releasing alongside the all-female reboot this July will feature a new cast distinct from the original or the remake.

Need some really spooks? Here's the best zombie games on PC.

The game, announced via a PlayStation 4 video but also revealed to be coming to PC and Xbox One on July 12, will feature a band of rookies tasked with keeping New York safe while the new film's cast are out saving the world.

A third-person action game, with local co-op of up to four players and RPG progression elements, was hinted at being in development at Activision in January for the supernatural franchise.

From the announcement trailer, it looks like it plays like a twin-stick, so don't expect any sort of deep, comedic, story-led narrative game from Telltale. Or Luigi's Mansion But With Bill Murray Cameos.

Mark my words. This game and the movie will bomb hard. Nobody asked for an all female Ghostbusters reboot in the first place. :P

I'm going to be less cynical than everyone else and say that I've always wanted a twin-stick shooter of Ghostbusters. I think I played something like one in the arcades yonks ago, when this world of video games were young and innocent. And it was terrible. I remember it being quite, quite terrible.

And I recall thinking to my younger, pimplier self 'gosh, I bet this would've been better if they'd modelled it after Robotron or summat.' Which was the kind of thing I would've thought at the time. And lo, here it is. It might stink, tremendously. Or it might be one of those once-in-a-blue-moon mutant movie tie-ins that's actually good. Like Aladdin for the Mega Drive.

Yes, that was mostly Dave Perry, but still. Everything that man touched turned to gold. Are you feeling the nostalgia yet???

If anyone's played that Ghostbusters arcade, though, they'll likely know exactly what I'm talking about. I always felt, after that, that the Ghostbusters IP would make for a really nuanced, interesting twin-stick shooter if done right. And I couldn't care less if the characters were men, women, or small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri (real or otherwise).
