GTA V console release date announced for September; all quiet on the PC front

As recently as three days ago, Gamestop regulars were taking photographs of big cardboard adverts which boldly read: ‘GRAND THEFT AUTO FIVE. PRE-ORDER NOW. SPRING 2013’. But today we learn via a slip of a Facebook post that the next entry in gaming’s most culturally-pervasive series isn’t coming til September. And even then, only to the other side.

September 17th, to be exact. Rockstar have remained schtum on a PC release to date, audaciously informing us that our fair platform was merely “under consideration”, as if we were all applicants for a very important job. Don’t you forget where you came from, BMG Interactive.

So a September announcement for PS3 and Xbox is terribly ambiguous. Will we be waiting even longer than expected for Rockstar to conclude their considerations?

Edit: A post on the Rockstar site reads:”We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time.GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.

“To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.”
