Guacamelee 2 dropkicks onto Steam in August

Guacamelee 2 has a release date confirmed for August

July 24, 2018 Guacamelee 2 hits PC this August.

Mexican wrestling Metroidvania Guacamelee 2 finally has a release date, and it’s coming very soon. The indie sequel will take you – and possibly some friends – back into a colourful world of 2D luchadores when it hits PC (along with PlayStation 4) on August 21.

Guacamelee 2 will deliver the smackdown on Steam for $19.99 / €19.99, but there’s no word on releases for other digital PC stores. The new game offers local co-op for up to four players, gives you a host of new combat and platforming abilities, and a bunch of new chicken powers. Your poultry-based abilities open up new traversal option to get around, and there are combat uses, as well. The devs say there’s a full “Pollovania completely inside of the main story’s Metroidvania,” and it seems to have something to do with a secret underground chicken society.

You’ll be exploring bigger maps, taking on twice as many enemy types, and enhancing your abilities through a brand-new upgrade system. You’ll once again play as Juan Aguacate, forced out of retirement to stop an evil rival luchador who’s become ruler in a parallel timeline. The adventure will have Juan wrestling through time and space across the realms of the living and the dead.

Check out the new trailer for a taste of what to expect.

Guacamelee 2 was first announced for PlayStation 4 back in 2017, along with a trailer that announced it was “soon-ish.” (Emphasis on the “ish,” since it’s been nearly a year now.) With less than a month left until release, however, you’ll want to make sure your Rey Mysterio and El Santo masks are properly cleaned up in time for release.
