The first conclusive piece of evidence that a PC port of Halo 3 is in the works has shown up in the entrails of a future graphics driver. Really.
Update: Said Microsoft to Eurogamer this afternoon: “We currently do not have plans to release any Halo titles on Steam, nor do we currently have plans to release a PC version of Halo 3.” Well, I’ll be.
The beta for the AMD Catalyst 13.3 was released at the tail end of last week, and contained the following garble:
profile Area=”UDX” Usage=”Halo3″ Notes=”Halo3″
value Property=”Version”>1
value Property=”MTShaderCompile”>False
/profile
application Title=”Halo3″ File=”halo3*.exe”
use Area=”UDX”>Halo3
/application
This striking bit of code follows the leak of Steam database entries for Halos 1, 2 and 3 at the beginning of last month. While the database is far from being a reliable log of games in active development, Halo 3 PC is certainly looking a lot more likely this afternoon. Warthogs and co-op and overwrought plotting and all.
Without wishing to come over all ungratefully Dickensian, I don’t suppose there’s any chance we could have the second, is there? Or the fourth, or the third-point-five? Or, dare I ask, Destiny?
