Hearthstone Knights of the Frozen Throne new legendary reveal: Blood-Queen Lana’thel

Blood-Queen Lana'thel

It’s new Hearthstone cards season, and we at PCGamesN have an exclusive legendary to show you. If you like Warlocks, discarding cards, or drinking the blood of your enemies – and, let’s be honest, who doesn’t? – then it’s custom designed for you.

Here she is:

There are fairly obvious synergies here, with classic cards like Doomguard and Soulfire all the way up to Malchezaar’s Imp, Silverware Golem, and Clutchmother Zavas as payoffs. However, Lana’thel is a bit different from previous discard-focused cards, as we explain in the above video.

The problem comes in her expense and the lack of effect when she is discarded. She can’t simply be deployed early to get her out of your hand due to the mana cost – but as the game goes on, a five mana, 2-6 power minion, even with Lifesteal, isn’t that powerful. Against aggro she doesn’t have taunt or another way to ensure they have to trade with her, while against control the lifegain and stats just aren’t that impressive.

It’s possible that more cards are due to make her more impressive, or that deploying her and having her grow over the course of the game is a more viable strategy than I assume. Alternatively, Warlock is getting another poor legendary this time around. Even if a Warlock quest deck does develop, is she even a shoo-in once you’ve had your fill of Lakkari Felhounds and Darkshire Librarians? Possibly not.

Let us know in the comments if the Blood-Queen fits into any of your decks, or if we’ve missed a vital piece of tech.
