How to get to Mount Fay in Hollow Knight Silksong

Here's exactly how to reach the Silksong Mount Fay area both in the early and mid-game, so you can pick up one of Hornet's best abilities.

How do you get to Mount Fay in Silksong? The high peaks of Pharloom's ice biome are certainly not for the weak. Destructible terrain can quickly impede your progress, and without proper preparation, you might be forced to turn back. However, just getting to this area can be a real trek in itself.

Mount Fay is an optional area on the Silksong map, but that doesn't mean you should ignore it. This location includes the item that unlocks the Silksong Double Jump ability, plus a Silksong Mask Shard, a Lost Fleas, and one of the best Tools. You can even find a secret cameo for Hollow Knight Silksong loreheads. If all that sounds too good to pass up, here's how to get to Mount Fay in Silksong.

How to get to Mount Fay

There are two ways to get to Mount Fay. You can get there early after being kidnapped and taken to The Slab, or you can take the official mid-game route via Choral Chambers.

Before you can reach Mount Fay, you have to find a way into The Slab. Follow our Silksong Slab location guide, let yourself get captured by the Wardenfly in Bilewater, or head west from Choral Chambers - don't forget to pick up the Silksong Apostate Key if you take this route.

The Slab

Once you're in The Slab, make your way down to the bottom-right corner of the area map until you reach the bench. Continue left past the Silksong fast travel point to enter Mount Fey.

While you can reach Mount Fay early via The Slab be aware that you can't fully ascend the mountain until you pick up the Grappling Hook from the Underworks. As a result, we recommend taking the route through Choral Chambers for your first playthrough.

Choral Chambers

The Choral Chambers are along Hornet's main route through Pharloom, so you'll inevitably reach them as you progress through the main objective.

After you defeat the Cogwork Dancers to the west of Songclave, proceed down to the western corner of the area map. Rather than heading down to the Citadel Spa, follow the sign with the circular icon that points to the left. This route gives you a clear run through The Slab to Mount Fay.

Congratulations, you've reached Mount Fay! Now the real challenge begins. This location features Silksong's toughest platform game challenges. Not only will you have to make dozens of treacherous jumps, glides, and grapples without error, but the cold conditions inflict periodic damage over time whenever you stray from a lit torch. However it's all worth it for what awaits at the top.

To offer a couple of tips for the climb ahead, we'd recommend equipping the Flintslate and Ascendant's Grip tools if you have them. Flintslate temporarily stops you from freezing while active, while Ascendant's Grip will give you some breathing room while attached to a wall. Flintslate can be found by using a Simple Key on the door in Deep Docks, while Ascendant's Grip can be purchased from Jubilana in Songclave for 350 Rosaries.

Now that you've reached Mount Fay, it's time to begin the arduous climb to the top. If you've arrived a little too early for comfort, take the Bellway and pick up some Silksong Mask Shards for more health, and grab Silksong Tools to take with you on the climb, like the Ascendant's Grip. A Silksong crest that changes the trajectory of Hornet's dive attack can help, too.
