Focussing on the people of Kharak – the Kushan, a nomadic race who’ve been banished from their home planet Hiigaran – the cinematic appears to show central character Rachel S’jet leading a troop of comrades into the desert in search of the “Primary Anomaly”, an object that’ll supposedly help the Kushan return to their native homeland.

Unlike its forerunners, Deserts of Kharak is a ground-based RTS, thus its battles will play out on land and not up the vast expanse of outer space. That said, everything about the latest trailer echos the Homeworld games that’ve come before it. Check it out:

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is due for release on January 20 for $50. If you preorder from Steam, you’ll get a free copy of the Homeworld Remastered Collection. If you already own that, you can look forward to a 20 percent discount, bringing the price down to $40/£29.99.
