Where do you find Thorium ore in Hytale? With any crafting game, especially one in which your weaponry, armor, and tools are so important, you need to seek out the best materials the world has to offer. To take on any of the mid-to-late challenges in Hytale, you're going to need more than just Copper and Iron.
While it might not be up there with Mithril, Thorium is one of the best early-game upgrade resources you need to find in Hytale. When you've had enough of your scrap mace and crude pickaxe, upgrading your weapons requires the likes of Thorium and Cobalt to take them to the next level.
Hytale Thorium location
Hytale Thorium ore can be found in the Badlands area of Howling Sands and beneath the desert biome. You will spot the green material in small veins above the ground in mountainsides, but it's more common in underground caves.
To find the Howling Sands, look for warm areas on your map, which should hopefully lead to the dry desert biome. The darker areas of the Howling Sands are Badlands and can be seen marked on the image below, but Thorium seems to be available in caves below the entire area. Saying this, we've gone a long while without seeing any, just to find plenty of it in a small space, so just stick with it if you're struggling to find any.
We have also since found Thorium in a rocky area of Whisperfrost Frontiers, where you can also find Hytale Cobalt. We're not completely sure of the requirements or exact location, but it's worth keeping an eye out for both materials when mining in the wintry biome.
Once found, Thorium can be smelted in a furnace to turn it into ingots. These are then required in a number of useful recipes, including, but not limited to:
- Thorium Pickaxe
- Thorium Hatchet
- Furnace upgrade
- Thorium Helm
- Thorium Cuirass
- Thorium Gauntlets
- Thorium Greaves
- Thorium Shield
