Broken Age ditches Early Access in favour of a season pass

Broken Age isn't Early Access

The first half of Broken Age has been released; read our Broken Age Act 1 review.

The first part of Double Fine’s two-part adventure romp was set to launch on Steam through Early Access, with sales of the first episode funding the second. This plan has been ditched, it was revealed on a backers-only Kickstarter update, and the developer is now selling a season pass on Steam instead of splitting the cost into two parts, the result still being that the initial purchase will fund the future episode.

“You may recall that at one point Broken Age was planned for release under the Steam Early Access program,” Double Fine explained. “This is no longer the case. For various logistical reasons, and because we believe Act 1 is a polished and satisfying piece of content in its own right, Broken Age will be a standard Steam release that includes a ‘Season Pass’ granting access to Act 2 once it is complete. Anyone who has Act 1 – either by being a backer, or by buying the game separately – will receive Act 2 as a free update when it’s ready.”

Backers should already be receiving their Steam codes for the first act via email from Humble Bundle, while the unwashed masses will have to wait until January 28th for it to officially launch on Steam. You can pre-purchase it now, however, with a 10 percent discount. This includes Act 2 when it releases.

Cheers, Joystiq.
