The Mandate footage shows tsarist starships start sparring among the stars

The Mandate Perihelion Interactive

It’s been a couple of weeks since we last wrote about The Mandate and that’s too damn long. Jamming together, both, an isometric RPG set aboard your own customisable starship and a complex tactical space battle arena, I’m a little excited to see this one get closer to crossing its Kickstarter target.

Plus, now we have some in-game footage of spaceships blowing each other to pieces.

The video shows only The Mandate’s ship-to-ship combat and, even then, only a slice of it but it’s intriguing in its own right.

The way Perihelion are handling shields is particularly nifty. Successive hits on a particular area tears a hole in a shield bubble, allowing ordnance to score a direct hit on the hull. Hopefully you’ll be able to adjust your ship’s pitch and yaw so that when you see a tear appear in its shield you can roll it over and present an unbroken part of the bubble to enemy fire.

Perihelion have managed to raise $188,000 of their $500,000 goal so far. With 30 days left on the counter we’ll hopefully see something of the game’s interior RPG section.

You can read more about The Mandate on its Kickstarter page.
