SOMA details reveal that something has turned against us

Frictional Games are hard at work on SOMA, the follow up to their pant-destroying horror Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Rather than delving back into history though, SOMA opts for the dank and dirty future. Whilst we know almost nothing about it, we do know that something is going to go horribly wrong, as revealed in this snippet of audio transcription that Frictional have let loose.

Transcription of radio message intercepted at XX/XX/XXX.

UNKNOWN: Look, this is the short version. — [CORRUPT DATA] — gone rogue. We’re not sure what it’s up to, but it looks like it’s messing with the help. Are you hurt in any way, are you guys okay?

AMY: — [CORRUPT DATA] — are turning on us! We need to get out of here.

UNKNOWN: Hold on, don’t panic. Carl, tell Amy to calm down. You guys can’t have much left to do before evac.

CARL: Calm down, Amy.

AMY: You calm down!

An alarm is heard in UNKNOWN’s mic.

UNKNOWN: Shit. I got to go. Stay the course, ok? Stay the –

Static outburst after which the signal is lost.

Combined with that lovely new screenshot that we’ve displayed proudly as our header image, it looks like SOMA will offer a grimy horror to rival the mood of Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic. So if Alien: Isolation turns out to be a load of old guff, at least we’ll have SOMA to turn to for spaceship screams.
