Just Cause 3's incoming 1.02 patch will "significantly reduce" load times

Just Cause 3 is getting a new patch this week that should improve its painful loading times. Just Cause 3 encourages knockabout play and experimentation, but the load times detracted from that ethos a bit by punishing the player with a long wait whenever they died. This patch aims to fix that.

Just Cause 3 made its way onto our list of the best PC games - why not check out the rest.

The patch is 132.1MB and will include the following improvements:

  • Significantly improved loading times
  • Optimisations to online stats
  • General stability fixes
  • Fixed an issue related to challenges, wherein vehicles sometimes disappeared when starting a challenge
  • Fixed issues related to screen resizing and closing the game window before the game has fully started up

"Since launch, we've been pouring through your reviews and comments to help us prioritise our fixes accordingly," Avalanche said in their patch notes.

"We know many of you have been patiently awaiting today's patch, and this update is part of a much larger plan to optimise and improve the game. Thanks for your patience."

It seems like it's an ongoing effort to fix some of the technical issues the PC version suffers, but reduced load times are a welcome start.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Yes, the load times are rather long, but I've never even thought about bringing them up as something that bothers me about the game. Perhaps it's because I rarely die, or because the patience that I needed as a kid after typing "LOAD "*",8,1" is hardly even put to test nowadays.

I've seen quite a few community reviews giving the game a "thumbs down" simply because of the load times, which is just ridiculous.

The general loadtimes were fine for me too. The only slow bit was when you first load the game up and it takes about 60 seconds to get going due to logging in/autoloading the game and such.

It'd probably take almost as long in other games to do all that though, but i guess being the one to hit "continue" makes it feel less of a wait.

I've hit one load time that lasted more than 3 minutes. I thought the game had crashed but it finally loaded the save...after I parachuted into a helecoptor rotor and was flung into the side of a mountain....on purpose.
