Kojima Productions makes cryptic teaser, Silent Hill fans set themselves up for disappointment

Who's ready for a new cycle of Silent Hill disappointment?

Kojima Productions is probably going to make some kind of announcement soon. It’ll probably be something small. It might be mid-sized, like a proper Death Stranding PC release date. It will almost certainly not be a new Silent Hill game made by Kojima Productions, but it’s 2020 and everyone loses their gosh-darned minds at every tweet these days – though it’s mostly been in good fun.

Here are the facts. Jay Boor, who recently left a decade-long position at Konami to join KojiPro as its chief marketing guy outside of Japan, tweeted from the official account to say that Aki Saito continues to be the overall head of communications for Kojima Productions. “He’s in Japan, I’m in the UK!”

In response, Saito tweeted “Sorry to be silent everyone! I’ve been really busy lately… I think I can say more soon about what we are going to…” An attached photo of Saito sees him writing the phrase “next week!” on a notepad. The reasonable expectation is that KojiPro is teasing some kind of announcement for next week.

Here’s where the wild speculation begins. Saito says “silent” in the tweet – as in Silent Hill. He has a Pyramid-brand pencil – as in Pyramid Head. “Next week” will be the anniversary of the original release of Silent Hill.

Meanwhile, Silent Hill artist Masahiro Ito has been making his own weird tweets.

Clearly, this all means that Kojima Productions will return to the Silent Hills concept with Ito on board and finally make good on the promise of PT, right? Well, uh… Look. If you’re reading this, you’re probably a Silent Hill fan. You’ve been burned so many times before. Don’t let yourself get hurt again. There are other horror games to play, and a lot of them are quite good. I know it’s not quite the same, but you have to let go. For your own sake, as well as Silent Hill’s.
