Steam’s current Linux crop is a nice, burgeoning collection of PC ports, if a little indie-heavy. But it’s about to benefit from a bit of AAA heft in the form of Left 4 Dead 2, which Valve have finally let out of beta.

“The Linux conversion is ready for primetime so we are opening it up to more people and releasing it officially on Steam,” say the developers. “This will let us get feedback on more builds and distros.”

“Thanks to everyone who helped test all the changes in the Beta Build.”

The Linux release also marks the sudden inclusion of an Extended Mutation System in all versions of the game. A “powerful” tool for modders, the EMS will see the L4D2 Workshop swell with new Mutation and game modes.

Right now your Must Download is probably Holdout – a multi-map Mutation created by Valve to showcase some of their new concepts, including resources and buildable items. And then there’s Tiny Terror (pictured). Let us know how you get on, won’t you?
