Here’s everything you need to know about the Life is Strange Double Exposure release date, trailers, story, and more.

Life is Strange Double Exposure release date

The Life is Strange Double Exposure release date is Tuesday, October 29, 2024. It will launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Windows Store and Steam.

The release date was announced alongside the reveal of the game and announcement trailer. More details on the gameplay, characters, and a deeper dive into the story, were covered in a special livestream in June 2024.

Fans can pre-order the Ultimate Edition of the game, granting advanced access to the first two chapters on Tuesday, October 15, two weeks ahead of the full game’s release date.

Life is Strange Double Exposure story

Max is a photographer-in-residence at Caledon University, mentoring young artists. It looks like she has moved on from the events of the first game, though it’s not clear how much our previous endings will affect the game. The developers, Nine Deck Games, stressed the original game’s endings will remain ‘canon’ to each player.

Max’s close friend, Safi, is murdered and Max tries to use her ability to rewind time to prevent the death. Instead, she opens a parallel timeline, one where Safi is alive. Max can move between timelines to piece together who killed Safi and why.

Life is Strange Double Exposure trailers

The first glimpse we got of Max’s new story was in the ‘Announce’ trailer released in early June. Caledon University is nestled among a snowy landscape, with the voiceover of Max saying, “I swore I’d never use my powers again.” Max is now older, working at the university alongside her close friends Safi and Moses.

The trailer has a pretty dark beginning, showing Safi being killed at night in the woods and Max finding her body. In Max’s attempt to investigate as she can still hear Safi’s voice, she ends up using her powers to create a parallel timeline, one in which Safi is alive. She’s able to use her powers to move between the two realities to try to solve the murder.

Throughout June and July, the Life is Strange YouTube channel released several videos highlighting the main characters in the series and what fans can expect from them. You can learn more about Max Caulfield, Safi Llewellyn-Fayyad, and Moses Murphy, as well as Caledon University.

Life is Strange Double Exposure gameplay

In the extended gameplay trailer, we got a closer look at the world and characters, including the lighter moments that Life is Strange is known for. The trailer, however, quickly descends into a spooky scene of Max fainting and hearing things, before hearing a gunshot and running through the woods at night to find her friend.

As Max hasn’t used her abilities in a while, she’s a little rusty and when she tries to utilize them, she ends up splitting into another timeline. This new supernatural ability to move between timelines gives her a chance at solving Safi’s murder. One of her new abilities is called Pulse, which lets her catch a glimpse of people and objects in the other timeline while remaining in her own timeline. This means she can eavesdrop on conversations, follow suspects, and appear without anyone knowing.

Another ability she has is Shift, which means she can physically move timelines in specific places called Shift Spots. So she can talk to suspects and even Safi, allowing her to gain information she can’t in the current timeline. Nine Deck Games has said that the timelines are distinctly different, so hopefully we won’t be too confused when moving between the two!
