David Brevik, the former president of Blizzard North and current CEO of Gazillion Entertainment, is leaving the company after seven years of service to work on his own projects.

Waiting for Marvel Heroes 2016? These 10 best PC MMOs might tide you over in the meantime.

Gazillion are the company behind Marvel Heroes, the mash-up of Diablo and the comic books which lets you play your favourite superheroes while grinding for loot. Brevik is leaving the company to go independent and has announced his decision with a post on the game’s forums.

“As CEO, I spent most of my time running the company” Brevik said in the post “After doing this for several years, I really want to get back to developing games and programming. I got into this industry to make games and I miss the day-to-day creation process”

Brevik was president of Blizzard North for 11 years, and on the way to Gazillion worked on both the original Diablo and the ill-fated Hellgate: London. He said the choice to leave Gazillion was tough as “I love Marvel Heroes” and he’ll still be playing the game and streaming it, but he’s “going back to doing the things I love most: programming and making games.”

What does this mean for Marvel Heroes and the big Marvel Heroes 2016 update next month? Brevik is sure the team have it handled: “We have an incredibly talented staff here, and I know the game is in great hands, I believe in the future of the game and I know a lot of amazing things that are being worked on.”
