Marvel Ultimate Alliance and its sequel coming to PC in remastered form tomorrow

Marvel Ultimate Alliance remaster

Quite how the combination of superheroes and action-RPG lootfest hasn’t managed to make a great impact on gaming we may never know. Marvel Ultimate Alliance was one attempt, but never quite took the world by storm – and the sequel was never released on PC. They are now coming back, to be available digitally via Steam tomorrow. They’ve had graphical and UI upgrades since originally coming out in 2006 / 2009 but further details are thin on the ground.

Many great action RPGs sit in our list of the best of the genre.

The announcement came at SDCC, with an interview on the official Marvel site explaining why. Mike Jones, who’s producing the re-releases, says that they “wanted these re-releases to be as faithful to the original Ultimate Alliance games as possible – the definitive versions. However, the team did work really hard on improving performance, some UI and graphic enhancements as well as making the games compatible with modern platform features on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. They play really smooth.”

That means utilising the modern backends for server management, we’d assume, letting online co-op come together a little more easily. The games can also be played locally, with a variety of characters from Marvel’s massive universe available to biff, bop and bash each other into oblivion.

They’ll be priced at $39.99 each, or $59.99 for the pair. Jones was coy on whether this meant another game was on the way, simply saying that they’d long heard requests for re-releases of the games from classic fans. As with anything, if they make money, chances are they’ll continue to be made. If you never played them, here’s a trailer:

Thanks, EG.
