It’s time for another Topic of the Week. This week, we’re buggering off up into space. What an exciting age we live in.
I’ll put my hands up and admit that I don’t care about how bad the Mass Effect 3 ending was. It didn’t destroy all the cracking stuff that came before it across the great space opera. There’s a reason the series is on my list of the 15 best RPGs on PC. So I’m far from immune to the anticipation of the next Mass Effect that we know BioWare is working on.
But we know barely anything about it. Well, besides the return of the Mako and the absence of Shepard. So all we can really do is speculate, but isn’t speculating just splendid? So this week’s topic is: what do you want from the new Mass Effect.
As always, I’ll get the ball rolling.
A wee while after Mass Effect 3 came out, I had this very same discussion with my good chum and fellow wordy man Andy Astruc. He churned out a number of glorious ideas, but one of them has really stuck with me. Because it’s just awesome.
It starts with a simple premise: Salarians are rad. Really, really rad. Killing things is less rad, and is in fact rather mean. So we’ll have no more of that, thank you very much. Instead, our Salarian not-really-a-hero is on the run. He’s seen something he shouldn’t have seen, a conspiracy or whatever, and now some very bad people are after him, and all he can do is stay ahead of them.
Its The Man Who Knew Too Much meets Mirror’s Edge. It’s that amazing trailer for the Prey 2 that never was, but with a Salarian who simply doesn’t want to die.
That’s what I want Mass Effect 4/Next/Oh No! More Mass Effects to be. It’ll never happen, but a man can dream. About Salarians.
Okay, enough of my nonsense. What do you lovely lot want from the new Mass Effect.
