Skip Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain’s tougher sections by wearing a chicken hat

Be not afraid, reader. You may have worried you’d never reach the end of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, that a particular boss fight or stealth section would have blocked your way to finale. Well, Kojima Productions have something for you: a chicken hat.

Strap on the hat for those more difficult sections and you’ll be able to breeze through. You’ll just look like the chicken you are while doing it.

If you hit a section of The Phantom Pain where you die repeatedly you’ll be asked whether you’d like wear the chicken hat. If you say yes then you’ll restart from the last checkpoint, your new headgear in place, and enemies will react slower to you. So, if you’re not all that good at stealth you’ll find the game becomes much more forgiving.

According to Kotaku, the hat glows in the dark. It will also stay on in cut scenes – which is a major improvement, I reckon.

There was a wonderful time in the early 2000s when (some) games started to let you change the difficulty setting midway into the game. Up until then if you ran across a sudden difficult spike or found you couldn’t keep up with a game’s difficulty curve you either had to give up, start over, or cheat.

I wish they’d come up with the chicken hat option instead. Simply so we’d have had 15 years of games with chicken hat-wearing characters.
