Metal Gear Survive announced, set between Ground Zeroes and MGS5 with release due in 2017

Metal Gear Survive

There’s a new Metal Gear coming, and Kojima’s nowhere to be seen. Announced at Gamescom today, Metal Gear Survive tells the story of what happened between the Snake’s dive into the drink at the end of Ground Zeroes and his resurrection at the start of MGS5. It involves alternate universes and crystalline zombies.

Our man Joel is on the scene at the announcement in Cologne and says that it’s a co-op focused stealth game with biological enemies, like the intense gribblies you see above but that’s just a “glimpse” of how bad it gets.

They’re hanging about because unexplained wormholes have opened and swallowed up the staff from Mother Base that survived the Ground Zeroes attack. They’re in an alternate timeline now, obviously, and that’s where the game begins. Sections of Mother Base are there too, littering a “distorted desert landscape.”

Mechanically, there’ll be loads of new tools and weapons, with new animations and designs. It’s still stealth-focused, as you’d expect.

It’ll be coming out next year on PC, plus the latest consoles. That’s all the information that’s out so far, but we’ll bring you more when we have it. Here’s a couple more screenshots too:
