The Simpsons tackles Minecraft for intro couch gag; Notch “not sure how I feel about it”

Minecraft

After Craig Ferguson reserved Notch a seat on his set settee, there was only one couch-related pop culture honour left for Minecraft to claim. And here it is: the rendering of Springfield in regular quadrilaterals.

“The Simpsons did a Minecraft couch gag,” tweeted Notch this morning. “I’m not sure how I feel about it.

“I STILL feel a bit like it’s just this small game I made at home. It’s so weird to have all these things happen.

The episode, named ‘Lucas$’ and featuring Zach Galifianakis, was broadcast in North America last night.

The intro is notable for its cultural significance, but not necessarily its humour. The key gag seems to have been rebuilding a number of Springfield landmarks – the nuclear plant, the Lard Lad donuts statue, the eternally burning tyre pile – in something approximating Minecraft’s signature art style.

Oh: and Moe’s a creeper, because he’s a creep. Can’t argue with that. Any other obvious crossover opportunities they missed?

Cheers, Kotaku.
