343 is hiring for “a new project in the Halo universe”

The studio said more Halo spin-offs were coming ages ago, and it looks like that promise is finally paying off

It looks like a new Halo game is on the way, and one that might just put Halo in a whole new genre. 343 Industries is hiring a senior producer to “help develop a new project in the Halo universe”. The Halo Infinite release date is still some months away, but it appears that 343 is looking to make good on its promise to take the series in new directions through spin-offs.

“343 Industries is looking for a senior producer to work with our core services team to help develop a new project in the Halo universe,” the job listing, noted by Klobrille on Twitter, says. “This is your chance to work on one of the most exciting and creative intellectual properties in the industry with one of the industry’s most talented teams.”

You won’t find much more detail on the new game than that, as it sounds like 343 itself is still working to figure out what form it will take. But this isn’t the first time that the studio has spoken about building Halo titles outside of the core line-up of FPS games, more in the vein of Halo Wars or Spartan Assault.

Asked about Halo spin-offs in a 2019 interview with IGN (at the 1:01:01 mark), studio head Bonnie Ross said “We’ve got this canvas that we can tell so many different stories and we can tell different game genres. The answer is yes – it’s not ‘if’, but ‘when’.” At the time, Ross said any such projects would be quite a distance away, as the studio was focused on developing Halo Infinite – but now, with the new, proper Halo heading toward release, it seems 343 is starting to look toward what comes next.

For now, there are plenty of other upcoming PC games to look forward to – it’s likely that it’ll be a long time before we hear more specific details on whatever the next Halo game will look like.
