What are the best new PC games 2023? Perhaps you have just been paid, bank account fat with virtual dosh, or you simply want to get caught up with the latest PC games because they are, well, new and shiny.
It is all well and good starting another daring round of PUBG, taking on a new 100-hour Football Manager save, or yet another The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim adventure but, as much as we love setting mammoths ablaze, there are plenty of new PC games that will more than supply your gaming fix. You don’t want to be the person who isn’t In The Know now, do you?
The best new PC games in 2023 are:
Diablo 4 is the first 10/10 to grace the site in a long while, but in our Diablo 4 review, not much stands in the way of making this pitch perfect as news editor Lauren says, “Diablo 4 embodies the essence of what makes Diablo so great, taking the best elements of its predecessors and sewing them together to create an ever-changing, ever-evolving chimera that we can’t wait to play for years to come.”
If you don’t need any more convincing, then here are our Diablo 4 tips to get started, including which Diablo 4 class to pick, and whether Diablo 4 is coming to Game Pass.
The Outlast Trials
If you’re looking for a horror game to play among friends, The Outlast Trials is the perfect co-op experience for a terrifying and disturbing look at the events before the original Outlast games. As you head to a secretive facility with the promise of a brighter future, that quickly fades as you’re forced into experiments of mind control and brainwashing.
To flee the facility and return to society, you and up to four friends must compete in a series of trials and challenges involving evading creepy monsters and making morally compromising decisions – all in the name of science.
System Shock remake
Though not much separates this from the original, the System Shock remake does bring forward the graphics and playability of the game, giving it a slight edge, and making it a thoroughly enjoyable FPS game. Though our System Shock remake review touches on the outdated mechanics the remake carries forward, there’s still a lot to love for newcomers to one of the best PC games of all time as you battle cyborgs in a frantic race to stop the destruction of Earth.
Street Fighter 6
Now this is a game that welcomes newcomers, if you aren’t familiar with this fighting game, now’s the time to punch in. Our Street Fighter 6 review highlights just how much the game has learned from previous installments, and creates an in depth campaign with a control system that appeals to newbies but challenges fighting game veterans. If you’re thinking of giving it a whirl, here’s our Street Fighter 6 tier list and Street Fighter 6 roster.
Honkai Star Rail
The new anime game from Hoyoverse, the studio behind Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd, has arrived and this time we’re venturing to space with turn-based tactics and a whole host of new characters. Playing as a Trailblazer, Honkai Star Rail takes to the Astral Express, a ship that travels the universe in this open-world game, full of new enemies and corners to explore.

Surprise new indie hit, Dredge, combines both the relaxing hobby of fishing and the horror of the open seas in the dead of night. With charming characters and a strong narrative running throughout, you’re tasked with catching fish and completing task for the locals, travelling to different islands to find out more about the past of the eerie archipelago
Though Dredge has moments of quiet solitude, the threat of the clock ticks in the background, the edge of night draws in, and you’re often left stranded in the sea with lurking monsters and ghostly apparitions of haunted ships.
Age of Wonders 4
If you’re after a strategy game, new fantasy game Age of Wonders has earned rave reviews, especially our own Age of Wonders 4 review: “This is undoubtedly the best 4X game I’ve played in years, delivering top-notch exploration, combat, and diplomacy alongside a rewarding and dynamic customisation system.” With improved customisation and faction mechanics, and compelling exploration, combat, and diplomacy systems, it’s no wonder Age of Wonders 4 has stormed the Steam charts.
Resident Evil 4 Remake
The latest Capcom game to get the remake treatment is Resident Evil 4 and the remake does a fine job of recreating the magic of the original game. Always defined as being more action than horror, our Resident Evil 4 Remake review says that “This is the sweet spot between action and horror that Resident Evil has always strived to locate – Resident Evil 4 Remake in fact does it even better than RE4 (the first one).”
If you’re convinced on giving it a go, here are all the Resident Evil 4 Remake blue medallion locations as well as how to solve the Church puzzle in Re4. If you’re new to the game or series, here are the best Resident Evil 4 Remake weapons and how many chapters there are in Re4.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
If you’re a fan of the popular hack and slash game Dynasty Warriors, but like the combat and sprawling open world of Souls games, then you’re going to love Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Playing as an unknown soldier during the Yellow Turban rebellion, some of the Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty bosses are based on Luo Guanzhong’s Romance of the Three Kingdoms – prepare to fight against legendary warriors and demonic beasts as you make your way through the dark fantasy game.
Our Wo Long Fallen Dynasty review describes it as “a thoroughly enjoyable Soulslike with intensely fun combat mechanics.” If you fancy taking on Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, here are the best spells and check out the Wo Long Dynasty system requirements to see if you can run it.
Sons of the Forest
In the follow up to the hugely popular survival game, The Forest, we’re landing back into cannibal territory to build, craft, explore, and survive the horrors and secrets of, well, the forest. Although the horror game is in early access, our Sons of the Forest review says it isn’t without its flaws and bugs, but “is an utterly engrossing game, and in losing myself in it, hours went by as I explored.”
You can expect much of the same if you played The Forest, but a harsher seasonal system, which makes surviving winter a bitter fight due to frozen lakes and dwindling resources, and somehow, the monsters and the caves they lurk in, feel much spookier. If you’re getting started, here are our Sons of the Forest tips, and everything need to know about the Sons of the Forest map.
