Nier: Automata director Yoko Taro is reportedly ready to announce his new game

Producer Yosuke Saito says that Yoko Taro will soon be able to talk about his new project

Yoko Taro, director of Nier: Automata, may soon be ready to unveil his next game. In a recent livestream, the game’s producer, Yosuke Saito, hinted that a reveal of Taro’s next project might not be too far away.

During a recent livestream alongside Taro (via Fire Sanctuary), Saito said that he “really wanted” to talk about the director’s new game. While Saito was adamant that there would soon be something to talk about, Taro seemed less open, stating that “Square Enix can talk about it if they want.” Saito, however, was not to be deterred, insisting that Taro would be able to talk about the new game the next time the pair appeared on the livestream.

We’ve known that a new Nier game is in development for a long time – Saito spilled the beans on that front nearly two years ago, and even teased the potential return of Yoko Taro to the series. Given Automata’s sales success, that reveal came as little surprise, but it’s still a helpful tidbit.

Since the release of Nier: Automata in 2017, Taro has worked on a raid for Final Fantasy XIV, but beyond that, he’s been pretty quiet over the past few years (although he did say he wanted to make an adult movie).

Given Automata’s success, it seems unlikely that Taro’s next project will be quietly announced on a livestream. But with the Tokyo Game Show just around the corner, we could be set to find out more in just a couple of weeks.
