Your eyes are dazzled by colour – bright, neon, and pulsing. The lights are intense but you’re captivated, unable to look away, drawn deep into the glow. Your peepers think they have it good but when compared to your ears it’s nothing. They’re luxuriating in the trusty beat of house music, which sits like croutons in a thick soup made of mesmeric synth sounds. This is maximum energy and it’s all happening inches away from your face.
And that’s just the first level of Octahedron. The game is a platformer, retro in palette and challenge, but without age in the way it turns your sharpest reactions into heart racing pleasure. To play it is like learning to master an instrument, but also more than that – a visualisation of music conducted by the deftness of your fingers.
As we said in our Octahedron preview, to beat each level you must climb up a tower made of disco, creating platforms out of thin air beneath your feet, surfing and hopping across them without failure. And that’s not all: you must also fire laser beams, crumble walls, and solve puzzles along the way.
Given that Octahedron excels when in motion and with the sound cranked right the hell up you should watch the trailer below to get a good idea of what it plays like. Then, once you’re through and have finished catching your breath – you’ll be buzzing on the other side – we’ll go over how you can win yourself a copy.
Blink a few times if you can still see bright lights in your eyes. Good? Ok, so Octahedron is available on Steam. You can buy it now if you need another fix. Or you can enter our giveaway in order to win a Steam key for it – we have ten of them in total.
