Outlast 2 PC demo available on Steam until November 1 – happy Halloween from Red Barrells

Outlast 2 demo

Outlast 2, the sequel to one of the better indie horrors out there, is doing the classic total plot reboot to go in a different direction despite being in the same universe with similar themes. Beyond mysterious corn fields and upside-down burning crosses, that’s just about all we know regarding the new game. That’s about to change, with a demo for Outlast 2 being released today on Steam, after having leaked on EU PSN earlier today.

However, its also got a time limit. The demo will be available until November 1 and then it disappears forever (or, well, probably until just before the game is out or something). Steam’s the place to get it.

As for what’s in it, those who may have played the game at E3, PAX or Gamescom could recognise some of it, as it seems to be made from the same exhibition build, but we won’t know for sure until it’s in our terrified, screaming mitts. Here’s the set-up blurb for a little story exposition:

“You are Blake Langermann, a cameraman working with your wife, Lynn. The two of you are investigative journalists willing to take risks and dig deep to uncover the stories no one else will dare touch. You’re following a trail of clues that started with the seemingly impossible murder of a pregnant woman known only as Jane Doe.

“The investigation has lead you miles into the Arizona desert, to a darkness so deep that no one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do.”

Spooky. There’s a series of comics being released on the official site to bridge the gap between the two games, but it’s down at time of writing.
