Time flies when you’re having fun, and Overwatch 2 Season 2 is well underway. With it, we’ve gained access to a new battle pass, map, multiple events, and plenty of cosmetic skins to spend our hard-earned Overwatch coins on. Season 2 also coincides with the debut of the latest Overwatch 2 tempo-tank hero, Ramattra.

Overwatch 2 got off to a bumpy start, but the multiplayer game’s quickly found its footing, with the welcome debut of Kiriko, Sojourn, and Junker Queen to mark the sequel’s release. However, the big question is whether or not Blizzard can sustain this momentum for a second season. Here’s everything going on for Overwatch 2 Season 2, including a full breakdown of Ramattra’s abilities.

Overwatch 2 Season 2 release time

Overwatch 2 Season 2 released globally on December 6, 2022. The free PC game’s new seasonal model refreshes every nine weeks, so unless Blizzard deviates from this schedule, we can expect Season 2 to continue until February 7, 2023.

Of course, a new season means a new Overwatch 2 battle pass. The theme for Overwatch 2 Season 2’s battle pass is Greek Mythology, and the Zeus Junker Queen serves as its top mythic skin. Two godly legendary skins are also up for grabs as you climb through the battle pass tiers: Poseidon Ramattra and Hades Pharah.

Ramattra is locked behind the Overwatch 2 season 2 battle pass, so be prepared to grind to the lofty heights of Tier 45 if you’ve got your heart set on maining him. Of course, you can also purchase the premium battle pass for immediate access to him, but that would also require forking over 1,000 Overwatch coins.

Overwatch 2 season 2 map

The Shambali Monastery Escort map is the latest in a long line of Overwatch 2 maps, and will make its debut as part of the Season 2 update. Sequestered in a snowy mountain range, Shambali Monastery serves as a safe refuge for Omnics, including Ramattra and Zenyatta. You can see a sneak preview of its grounds in the Ramattra gameplay trailer below.

Alongside Shambali Monastery, Rialto and Blizzard World are making a welcome return in Season 2, while Hollywood and Watchpoint: Gibralter are off-rotation. If you’re a fan of either of these two Overwatch 2 maps, don’t fret – you can still access both in custom games.

The Overwatch 2 Season 2 update promises bags of content, but if you’re eager to get stuck into the upcoming PvE mode, we’re afraid you’re going to have to wait a little while longer. As per Blizzard’s content roadmap, we won’t be seeing a dedicated PvE mode until 2023.

Overwatch 2 season 2: The Gingerbread Bastion skin that's available to purchase for one coin over the course of the Winter Wonderland seasonal event, which coincides with the second season of Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 Winter Wonderland

The Overwatch 2 Winter Wonderland seasonal event coincided with Overwatch 2 season 2, and ran from December 13 to January 4, 2023. While the initial offerings from the event elicited a frosty reception from fans due to the limited rewards and lack of new arcade modes, Blizzard endeavoured to soothe the ire of its playerbase with some good old-fashioned holiday cheer.

Aside from the Ice Queen Brigitte skin up for grabs, the Overwatch 2 Gingerbread Bastion skin was available to redeem for a single coin. Additionally, just launching the game bestowed upon players a Festive Wreath weapons charm. All cosmetics were only available for the duration of the event, and appeared alongside a selection of Overwatch 2 Winter Wonderland skins running on rotation in the shop.

Overwatch 2 Season 2: The Battle for Olympus deathmatch mode featuring Pharah, Roadhog, Ramattra, and Junnker Queen duking it out on Ilios as their divine counterparts.

Overwatch 2 Battle for Olympus

The Battle for Olympus is a limited-time free-for-all deathmatch mode that’s available to play from 5th to 19th January, 2023. Seven heroes from the main roster feature in the event: Ramattra, Pharah, Reinhardt, Junker Queen, Roadhog, Widowmaker, and Lúcio. Each hero’s ultimate is imbued with the divine power of a Greek god, granting them the ability to summon lightning bolts, whirlpools, and more against their foes.

As is standard in multiplayer deathmatch, the player with the highest number of kills takes the crown. Once the Battle for Olympus has concluded, a statue of the victor will be erected in the Ilios Ruins map in commemoration.

While there are several rewards up for grabs during the Battle of Olympus, the Winged Victory Mercy legendary skin is by far the most coveted, and one of few available to unlock outside of the premium battle pass. All you need to do is complete six challenges in Battle for Olympus, and this limited-time legendary skin can be yours without spending a penny.

Overwatch 2 Ramattra abilities

We’ve also encountered a new (or old) face in Overwatch 2 Season 2. During the Overwatch League grand finals, lead hero designer Alec Dawson and art director Dion Rogers unveiled the new tempo tank hero, Ramattra.

The pragmatic Omnic leader was first teased during the 2019 Storm Rising event, and his combination of defensive Omnic form and aggressive Nemesis form make him a remarkably flexible tank hero.  Here’s a full breakdown of Ramattra’s abilities.

Void Accelerator (Omnic Form)

Ramattra’s primary fire unleashes a stream of nanites in a fixed pattern, with slow travel time but no damage fall-off whatsoever. It also deals additional damage when making headshots. His secondary fire creates a temporary barrier at the target location, which sports a robust amount of health that allows you to close the gap between you and your target.

Nemesis Form – Pummel (Nemesis Form)

The standout of Ramattra’s kit is his ability to transform into Nemesis for an approximate duration of eight seconds, increasing his total health from 450 to 600. While in Nemesis form, Ramattra’s primary fire is a forward punch that generates a shockwave after every swing. This shockwave deals piercing damage, ignores shields, and hits multiple targets. His secondary fire in Nemesis form significantly reduces any damage received from the front, but slows his movement.

Ravenous Vortex

Ramattra’s Ravenous Vortex ability is available in both Omnic and Nemesis forms. When activated, it launches a nano ball which explodes on contact with the ground, generating a force field. Any enemies within the force field’s area of effect are pulled to the ground, and their movement speed is reduced.

Annihilation (Ultimate)

Ramattra’s ult automatically transforms him into Nemesis when activated. It also generates a massive energy swarm of nanobots, dealing continuous damage to enemies caught within it and reducing their damage dealt by 50%. The swarm remains active for as long as enemies are within range, as is Ramattra’s Nemesis form, encouraging players to go on the offence.
