Overwatch takes the title of Game of the Year at the 2017 DICE Awards

Overwatch PTR Philosophy Incentives

It was a big night for Blizzard yesterday, as Overwatch took a grand total of four trophies at the 20th annual DICE Awards. Alongside the main gong for Game of the Year, Overwatch also won awards for Action Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Game Design and Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay.

Something mad’s going down in Numbani. Check out who could be smashing into Overwatch very soon.

Playdead took its fair share of awards for Inside, winning Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction and Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction, as well as the DICE Sprite Award. Superhot VR earned the award for Immersive Reality Game of the Year, while Doom quite rightly won the Outstanding Achievement in Original Composition award. Bethesda also earned itself another big award, with game director and executive producer of Fallout and the Elder Scrolls Todd Howard becoming 22nd member of the AIAS Hall of Fame, joining the ranks of people like Hideo Kojima, Gabe Newell, John Carmack and more.

Civilization VI won Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year, with Battlefield 1 earning Best Sound Design and Dark Souls 3 getting Roleplaying/Massive Multiplayer Game of the Year. I’m not quite sure why those two massively different categories are linked together but Dark Souls 3 technically ticks both boxes so it’s not too egregious. You can read the whole list of winners below and you can join me in the comments in shouting about how Killer Instinct Season 3 should have won Fighting Game of the Year.
