Spots in the Overwatch League Season 2 could cost up to $60 million

Blizzard is filling its expansion slots for the Overwatch League, but new franchise spots could cost triple the initial investment

New spots in the Overwatch League could reportedly sell for up to $60 million, three times more than the cost of the first dozen places in the League. According to ESPN, sources revealed that new expansion slots are expected to sell for anything between $30-60 million.

The first 12 spots in the Overwatch League were each sold for $20 million. Nine of those spots went to teams from across the United States, while the remaining three were taken by teams attached to Seoul, Shanghai, and London. Blizzard has been looking to expand the League, hoping to pick up teams in new territories, ahead of the beginning of the League’s second season.

As well as reporting on the now astoundingly-high cost of the franchise spots, ESPN states that one of those new spots has been filled by Cox Enterprises, a company based in Georgia whose team will be attached to the Atlanta expansion slot. Sources also state that Overwatch League season two will feature teams attached to Paris, France, and Guangzhou, China.
