The legacy left by Diablo 2 still looms large to this day. While Blizzard has built on its longstanding ARPG legacy and Diablo 4 continues to thrive, the best true successor to D2 for my money is Path of Exile. More than a decade since Grinding Gear Games launched the free PC game, it's now kicked off the early access journey for its own sequel. Path of Exile 2 promises to be bigger, broader, and more ambitious than its predecessor, and PCGamesN has five Steam copies of the special $100 supporter edition to give away.
You can read my Path of Exile 2 early access review to get an impression for how things are shaping up, although this follow-up to one of the best games like Diablo still very much in its early days. Nevertheless, there's more than enough to keep you busy for potentially hundreds of hours, with a total of seven of the planned twelve Path of Exile 2 classes currently playable across three substantial campaign acts and a beefy initial endgame that has just been given a further upgrade with its most recent update, Dawn of the Hunt.
Much like the first PoE, Path of Exile 2's greatest strength is in its varied build crafting, with a wealth of distinctive skills that can be tweaked and amplified using support gems to change how they work. The big difference for the sequel is a greater focus on using combos of multiple skills, such as laying down a wall of fire and then sending lightning projectiles whizzing through it to create dual-damage devastation.
Despite this level of intricacy, PoE 2 is a much more approachable game than its notoriously overwhelming predecessor. Smart tutorials, helpful tooltips, and a streamlined passive skill tree make crafting the best Path of Exile 2 builds comprehensible without removing the breadth of options that made the first game so beloved.
More than that, however, the real joy is in how good its combat feels - taking inspiration from soulslikes such as Elden Ring, GGG has evolved its action to something that feels much more rewarding to execute. This is particularly true when it comes to the long list of Path of Exile 2 bosses, with dozens of unique and challenging fights to tackle, even the simplest of which make almost every other ARPG pale in comparison.
While it will be a free Steam game at the 1.0 launch, joining early access requires purchasing a supporter pack. We're giving away five of the $100 King of The Faridun supporter packs, which include flashy cosmetic armor sets and effects, two Kiwi pets, a custom hideout, in-game titles and portrait frames, and a digital soundtrack.
You'll also get 1,000 in-game store points, which is more than enough to buy all the Path of Exile 2 stash tabs you'll need to store an entire lifetime of loot with a little left over. All you have to do to take part is drop your details into the box below. Be sure to come by our community Discord as well to tell us which class is your favorite.
