It’s all very well for Professor Oak / Elm / Birch / Rowan / Juniper to recommend the children under his supervision enter the long grass in search of an animal biffing (if a little irresponsible). But it’s altogether a different matter what the grass is right there, ankle-high and full of foreboding, in 3D.

PokemonVR is the work of 3Dizzy. It’s currently missing head tracking, but its creators plan to post regular updates on their progress.

The shift in perspective re-casts Pokemon’s trademark rectangular towns in the mold of the more ancient Might & Magic games. In fact, the whole thing now has the air of a classic dungeon crawler about it. Very odd, and very impressive stuff.

I can’t imagine sticking at it for the hundreds of hours Pokemon demands from its players, though, can you?
