Business model has little to do with this game failing. The match making and MMR systems are so badly messed up I don't think they can ever save this game without redesigning them from scratch.
Deadite Avatar

You guys should do some research, the MMR system in this game is broken as hell, I can roll a smurf and get platinum easy whereas I have 0 chance of getting that on my 3000+ played games main. It's just broken... and don't even get me started on quick match.

That's the kind of excuse bad players use to feel better about being bad. The only reason HotS isn't bigger is the sunk cost of players who have already invested in other MOBAs.

Mass Effect: Andromeda gets second pre-release patch, fixing multiplayer soundMass Effect: Andromeda gets second pre-release patch, fixing multiplayer sound

I did enjoy the trial. This game has a shit ton of flaws but the overall package seems like an enjoyable sci-fi romp. There's no miracle patch that can fix the facial animations or dodgy writing though some of the odd quirks might get smoothed out.

It's going to be a case of whether or not you are willing to overlook the rough edges on this one.Reply
Jezcentral Avatar

Exactly. And I think Bioware are suffering from butting up against the Uncanny Valley. I'm also very interested to see what CDProject are doing for Cyberpunk 2077. They are the only other people I can think of that are doing facial animation at this detail and frequency.

Which should suprise absolutely no one since this is how Blizzard have always made their games since the rise of 3D graphics. Taking a good aesthetic and good framerate over cutting edge graphics combined with nicking the best bits of other games and then putting it in a package that is easily accessable to as many people as posible lead to their massive popularity. Fortunately you don't need originality to be successful.Reply
Aever Avatar

The price is that most of their games look like cartoons. Depending on personal preference this might or might not be a problem. For me personally it is, I've always hated Blizzard for using that kind of aesthetics in games with great mechanical depth. Basically, I like their games, but hate their graphics.

Star Citizen's persistent universe draws closer with the imminent Multiplayer Mega MapStar Citizen's persistent universe draws closer with the imminent Multiplayer Mega Map

The real news will be when 3.0 drops and we can land on planets, actually have stuff to do in the persistant universe and the revamp of the netcode will allow us to have more than 30 fps without the huge lag spikes. Only then will it start to become a real game. The cutting edge stuff they are working on with no compromises will (and does) yield amazing results but it sure isn't quick. 3.0 was due before xmas now I'm thinking it will probably be next xmas. I don't complain because the game looks and plays amazing when it works correctly, I'm simply impatient because one day it will be awesome and I can't wait.Reply

It's hard to build a sturdy house quickly when you first have to make the hammers and nails...and found the company. 3.0 is going to be like the first floor (and basement?). I'm still going to be optimistic though and say a summer release date, but I'm with you in that if it takes longer to perfect, then Christmas is more than fine.

Steam accounts for over 50% of For Honor's player base, despite cheaper alternativesSteam accounts for over 50% of For Honor's player base, despite cheaper alternatives

I don't hold any special loyalty to Steam other than it's been a reliable service for me for a decade. It annoys me no end that companies like EA would rather take the losses of not being on Steam, and install their own adware launchers than give a portion of their profits to Valve. For this reason I have Deadspace 1 and 2 on Steam but have to install friggin Origin to play 3. I rarely buy EA games just for this reason - the choice of service where I digitally get my games should be mine.

Sure I can sometimes get games cheaper elsewhere (and occasionally have) but I know Steam always works for me, I can see my whole game collection at a glance and I can count the times I've had problems with the service on one hand over 10 years... that's pretty impressive.

The unfortunate downside with Ubisoft games is while present on Steam they still use UPlay which is far less reliable in my experience.Reply
sintheticreality Avatar

I have a few Ubi games but haven't launched UPlay in years. I haven't bought a Ubi game since Blood Dragon and won't be buying more in the future.

Probably because IPS tech is about to surpass OLED without half of the issues of OLED. OLED should be a thing of the past soon.

This was always the case, the cd key on the printed in the original box could be registered on Steam - I did mine about 10 years ago.

Wow no mention of the horrible input lag, the terrible framerate drops in open levels or in combat or the fact the game won't even start for a lot of people. What did you guys do stand still looking at a wall?

Do some investigation please before posting 'this game is fine' or you are misinforming your readers greatly.
