Yeah it's a weird use of the term but dabbing is definitely a drug reference as well, which is what I thought this was actually about - the removal of accidental drug references from games.
Basically there's been a new marijuana concentrate on the market for a few years now, essentially distilled weed oil. It's sold as a toffee like substance usually called 'shatter'. It's usually smoked with some sort of modified e-cigarette / vape pen and the blobs you load into the device are referred to as a 'dab'. It's extra potent, very efficient and effective, smoking a single dab gives an impact similar to smoking a full J. So when you smoke shatter most people say they're 'dabbing' or having a dab.
There is another video that has gameplay in it but I'm afraid it doesn't look too engaging. I'm pretty sure Senua is going to be the next overhyped disappointment.
Chess is considered a full-fledged sport, even though competitors are seated (and barely moving), so I don't see the problems with professional videogames being called esport. Not to mention some games like CS and fighting games require impressive motor skills and reflexes.
What's next - surgeon simulator isn't realistic?
I don't think they are being serious! They are taking advantage of children's interest to spread some knowledge. Maybe they are pitching for an igNobel?
Frictional Games have published a brand new trailer for their upcoming game SOMA, displaying a cryptic computer terminal, a radio transmission, a hammerhead shark... wait, what?
Actually, I've bought a retail game last week. It was Diablo 3, the game was on discount at the local videogame store, grabbed it for less than 20eur.
Might be because the digital version was 15eur last week!
