Even in places close to each-other its not that simple, currency prices fluctuate a lot. Three years ago the Australian dollar was worth more than the American Dollar, same with the Canadian Dollar. Now they're worth almost 30 cents LESS, what would you think if a game three years ago was 60$ then today it was 80$ for the same thing?
But we're not talking about currency fluctuations - that is nothing to do with it. What we are talking about is selling a product based upon the price the market will sustain in that area. Games are ALWAYS cheaper in Russia and it's not because of the exchange rate, it's because people in those countries cannot afford (the Russian equivalent of) $60 USD for a game. The product is the same, it's all about charging as much as you can get away with.
Agreed. If I can pay less for a product, I will.
One of the first games I ever bought on PC was the original AitD around 1993/94. Still one of my favourite games of all time. By the sounds of it this won't be :(
I played it several months ago and it was a simple and uninteresting deathmatch on a small map. Rubbish. But things may have changed. I was hoping for a STALKER type survival / MMO deal - it certainly wasn't that.

Some truth in this, but there's also a lot of good stuff come out of this model.There are probably many many good small developers who otherwise wouldn't get their games noticed.
I disagree. Indie developers had no problem getting noticed before Kickstarter and "early access" were even a thing, but back in the good ol' days, it took a good game rather than simply a good sales pitch to rise above the noise, and unfortunately the trend now is that there are too many sales pitches that never materialize into a quality product, yet the developers still walk away with a pile of arguably undeserved cash.
I've always wondered why Europe and the US are split. Those three days give the pirates plenty of time to crack the US release for people to download in Europe, thereby losing the publisher sales. I think it's a great idea. Now all we need is equal pricing between geographical areas. I think Australia usually get a raw deal on this. (I'm from the UK BTW).
