There already is a game out based on this world and the artwork. A tabletop game called Scythe that was released this year and is very highly rated.

Right now I am playing at 1080p, but my next monitor will be 1440p and ultra wide.
At this time, I do not feel any need to get a 4K monitor.

A few more games you can add to the list:
Spectromancer - co-designed by Richard Garfield, the man that created M:TG

Duelyst - Designed by Eric M. Lang, one of the very best table top designers out there.

Shadow Era - Started off as a digital game, but you can now also get physical copies of it.

Star Realms - Fast and fun deck builder game.

Defense Grid: The Awakening review snippet How steep is the learning curve in Defense Grid: The Awakening?
It is easy to learn. You slowly gain new towers and they are explained in the game's story.

No.

To sign contracts with multiple high level actors to all be at the same place for 3 months, that takes a year or so with visas, planing and negotiations.

The filming itself was done during the summer. Not a good idea to announce something before then, if something happens and some key actor must cancel.

Add to that the basic thing of marketing: a steady flow of news/adds/announcements. Even if you have a very open development, you do not reveal too much early on. You always need to have something new to show to keep your customers or audience interested, not just dump it all at once.

And in a more basic context: They already stated they'd try and get some well known actors into this years ago. But there wasn't actually anything to SHOW until recently.

Even now, almost everything of what they've shown is still WIP.

We're finding out about this as it's proceeding. The idea that they got frightened and then suddenly threw a sack of cash at Gary Oldman who showed up right after that so they could simply dump him ad-hoc in a mo-cap studio analysing everything down to the wrinkles on his face, all on the fly purely in order to counter "the drama"... well that's just not how it works. This will have required a heck of a lot of effort and planning to make happen.

"Id be curious to know at what stage they decided to hire those specific people."

That would have been at 18/11/2012, when they reached $5,000,000

"Squadron 42 will feature celebrity voice-acting including at least one favorite from Wing Commander and 50 total missions."

And then one day later when they reached $5,500,000

"Professional motion capture for the Squadron 42 cutscenes"

Surely they would have announced it at an earlier stage then? Otherwise its making it seem like they only started spending the money after all the drama.

No. :(

The Kickstarter looked amazing, but I did fear that they would not be able to pull it off, it just looked too great. So I just didn't dare to back it.

But I am sure I will buy it as soon as it comes out.

Hah, exactly what happened to me. I thought it was too good to be true so I decided not to back it.

Something a bit related, as it involves a PC game and a Warhammer/Horus Heresy author: Dan Abnett have been hired by Yaeger to write the single player story for Dreadnought.

Now we just need Aaron Dembski-Bowden to work on some RPG...

Cool knowledge! I'm still convinced that a Black Isle-style RPG casting you as an Inquisitor would make so. much. sense.
