If I remember right she had an undisclosed relationship to a press employee that covered her game, and then the press was discovered to be collaborating together as they tried to destroy the "gamer" identity

No. GamerGater started the whole Gamer Gate debacle.

She was one of the first victims though.

Fantastic write-up, thank you very much. I was a bit worried about Tyranny, after I suffered through Avadon's world.

This sounds like my kind of thing, and I love being subversively good, regardless the costs.

The game is excellent. However, it's a child of having been in development for 10 years - all the testers have been active players of the demo for several years, with the result of having a hard-as-nails game where minmaxing is the only way to survive.

In its defense, there's several ways of minmaxing possible... but the game would have benefited greatly from getting rid of the numerical skillpoints and just go by selectable perks on level-up and character creation.

The story-telling is brilliant though, and well worth biting through the tough game.

Absolutely a style of game I always wanted to play. It's one thing I wouldn't mind Kinect for either - grabbing the ships and sending them one way!

I also like that the action seems to be slow-paced enough to actually allow for looking around.

This "pampering of players" in regards to naming and shaming them is a bit sad. Sometimes I miss working with Russian communities, who work very differently - Russian players expect the publisher/developer to actively explain why they banned people. If there isn't a weekly thread of publically naming and shaming certain players, the developer (and community manager) is deemed "weak" by Russian players.

Good times. Good times. I think we need this in our western games again. ArenaNet did well on that Reddit "Why were you banned" thread.

So its true, and as I suspected. Anything Russian is always Hardcore.
