Project BlueStreak pre-alpha trailer shows off a peaceful multiplayer map

Boss Key, Cliff Bleszinski’s new studio, debuted the first in-game footage of its multiplayer shooter, Project BlueStreak, at a PAX panel on the weekend. Now it’s been tossed up on Youtube awaiting your hungry eyes.

The footage is of a multiplayer map with a mix of medieval Japanese and sci-fi styles. There’s no action, but it’s quite the looker. It’s being developed on Unreal Engine 4, so Bleszinski should feel at home after his many years at Epic.

Project BlueStreak’s being billed as a return to competitive, skill-based PC shooters. In a Reddit AMA last summer, Bleszinski said that it would be set in a living world, but that the story won’t be force-fed to players.

“Weapons will have manufacturing corporations, players will have lore/history, and the world will feel there and lived in,” he said last year. “We also want to make live-action shorts quarterly to help tell more about the universe outside of the game. If you’re doing a sci-fi IP you need as much of the fiction to come through in other mediums (and with lore) so people care about Plasma Rifle 3 or Player X.”

It will be free -to-play, and is being published by F2P giant, Nexon. On the subject of the business model, Bleszinski was adamant that it wouldn’t be play-to-win.

“Anyone can just jump in and play your darned game. I’m DETERMINED to not do Pay To Win. Since this game is a shooter I want that one player who likes the game and doesn’t feel like spending any money to be able to take down the trust fund kid that’s spent a ton of money to have All The Stuff.”
