How do I get the BFG in Rage 2? Id and Avalanche’s joint effort with the shooter sequel has borne rich fruit when it comes to the range of crazy powers and ridiculous guns you can wield in the game. However, few come bigger and badder than a certain fluorescent green number: Rage 2’s BFG 9000.
Just in case you’re not up on the best FPS games on PC, the Big F***ing Gun – as known by game designer Tom Hall – has appeared in Doom and Quake, both being id properties. And, as you’ll know from our Rage 2 PC review, the developer’s viscera-stained hands are all over this game, so it makes sense to have the BFG 9000 in Rage 2.
That said, while you can get your gloves on this superweapon very early on, there are certain criteria you have to meet before you can instantly turn any of the game’s enemies into bright green goo. For starters, you need to own the Deluxe or Collector’s Edition of the game. Then you’ll need to create or link your Bethesda account by clicking on the ‘Store’ page of the main menu. Only then will have the chance to get the BFG in Rage 2. So, if that’s you, here’s how you get it.
Rage 2: How to get BFG 9000
Once you’ve linked your Bethesda account, you’ll be prompted to visit a meteor crash site north-east of the starting area of Vineland. We have a map of exactly where this is below, but you can’t miss the impact if you follow the road out north. You can get the gun and link your accounts at any time during your playthrough of the game.
Approach the site and Rage 2’s BFG 9000 should be lying there on the ground – be sure to get there before some pesky mutants do. You might take a bit of damage from the debris but that doesn’t matter anymore, you have the power of Doomguy in your inventory for the duration of your journey through futuristic Earth.
And there you are, that’s how to get the BFG 9000 in Rage 2. Any silly sausage that stands in the way of your explosive green laser fire will be turned to dust instantly, so remember – besides checking out these other excellent open-world games – with great power, comes great responsibility, Ranger.
