Warner Bros and Vive are making VR content to tie in with the Ready Player One movie

Ready Player One

Ernest Cline’s bestselling novel Ready Player One is getting the movie treatment. The book is already super popular in geek culture, thanks to its videogame references and the fact much of the story takes place in an advanced virtual reality. It’s going to be getting its own actual VR experiences too. Seems like a good fit.

Vive will be Warner Bros’ exclusive partner on VR tie-ins for the Steven Spielberg movie adaptation. The film itself is set for a global launch on March 30, 2018.

As for the Vive content, it’ll all be available through Viveport, some of it for mobile and some for high-end PCs. Vive will also create some bigger ‘experiences’ based on the film.

“The virtual reality world within Ready Player One is extremely advanced, sophisticated and engaging, and with Vive, we chose the best system to represent the future of VR,” said Blair Rich, president of worldwide marketing for Warner Bros Pictures.

“Vive is the perfect partner to bring that to life and also has the broadest reach to global markets for the use of VR in home, mobile and offline channels. We’re delighted that HTC Vive will be partnering with Ready Player One and very excited to work with them leading up the movie’s release in Spring 2018.”
