Resident Evil 3 review scores – our roundup of the critics

The Resident Evil 3 scores are in - let's see what the critics make of Capcom's remake

Good news survival-horror games fans – Resident Evil 3 reviews have landed, which means it’s time to find out what’s in store when the remake arrives later this week. Let’s take a look at what the critics have made of the game ahead of its launch.

Reviews of Capcom’s remake of the 1999 PlayStation classic are so far broadly positive. The game’s sitting at the high end of the scale on review aggregate sites, with an 80 on Metacritic and 81 on Opencritic as of this story. IGN says: “with a sublimely detailed world and breakneck survival-horror gameplay, Resident Evil 3 is just as good as its 2019 predecessor”, scoring it a nine out of ten, while Game Informer calls it “a relentless terror”, also giving it a nine.

However, there are mixed feelings about the game in some reviews, with PC Gamer calling it “a disappointing step back for the series”, noting its chief antagonist, Nemesis, is “wasted – a bit player in its own game, neutered by its chronic lack of purpose”. GameSpot similarly says: “Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 3 makes a strong first impression, but it eventually loses sight of what made the original so memorable.”

In PCGamesN’s Resident Evil 3 review our very own Jordan Forward says: “Capcom’s latest is still one of the better entries to the series, but isn’t quite sure if it wants to be po-faced and terrifying or a campy, blockbuster shooter.” Be sure to check it out to find out more.
