Contrary to its PSN page, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will not have microtransactions

Sekiro's PSN page mentions optional in-game purchases, but an Activision rep confirms there are "no plans" for microtransactions

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will not have microtransactions. Fan fears regarding in-game payments sprang up as a result of the game’s UK PSN pre-order page, which referenced “optional” in-game purchases for the next FromSoftware title. Since then, however, representatives have confirmed that there are “no plans” to include microtransactions.

Perhaps it’s not too surprising that a FromSoft game wouldn’t have microtransactions. After all, they weren’t included in any of the four Souls games, or in Bloodborne. None of those games, however, were published by Activision, a publisher with a more well-established history of in-game purchases, thanks in no small part to the Call of Duty series.

When suggestions of in-game purchases showed up on the game’s pre-order page then, fans were, understandably, somewhat concerned. Thankfully, however, an Activision representative told GOGconnected that “there are no plans for microtransactions in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.” The rep also stated that the suggestion on the game’s pre-order page was due to “an erroneous tick box,” and the mistake would soon be fixed. At time of writing, however, the statement is still visible.

During Gamescom, we learned more about Sekiro, most notably how its resurrection mechanic works. We also found out that you can play Sekiro as a stealth game if you so desire, which is quite the departure from previous Soulsborne games.

The Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice release date is March 22, 2019, which is sooner than you might have originally thought. Pre-orders, as you may have guessed, are available now.
